Blouse: Urban Outfitters (I think) Shorts: DL 1961 Shoes: Miista Sunnies: Prada TWO warm days in a row...in CHICAGO?!? This is unheard of, and boy has it been great for my mood. Enter: SHORTS! I realized earlier this week that I only owned one pair of shorts. I thought about why on earth this would be the case, and came to an odd conclusion...I really don't like shorts! I guess shorts feel too predictable for me, too vanilla, too casual. So then, why did I put on shorts today? Turns out, I was just thinking about shorts the wrong way. I could never style my shorts in a way that I liked, and I thought it was a function of the shorts as such. What I realized instead, was that I just didn't have the right attitude towards shorts. Introducing: these new beauties. The problem was that I was treating shorts as a "new" piece of clothing, rather than just short versions of the denim uniform I wear every single day. When I began to look at it that way, it made sense! I just wear the same outfit I would wear with my long jeans, and pair it with my short denim instead! Problem solved. So now, I have two pairs of shorts : both denim. I'm still not obsessed with shorts, so I think my shorts collection will stop there. But today I'm wearing shorts and I feel PERFECTLY MYSELF in them. Which is pretty great. How do you guys feel about shorts? Do you have a particular way you like to style yours?

Let's try this "outfit of the day" thing again. A lot of life happened to me last week, and I just couldn't get a picture of each of my outfits. Now that I have a tripod that works though...here we go! On this lovely spring day (FINALLY), here's my outfit! I felt so perfectly springy today, and it was so comfy to go to class in, (especially with my Vans!). Made me feel so beautiful and alive...and check out the view from my balcony! I'm going to miss this place
Dress: Urban Outfitters Sunnies: Prada Denim Jacket: (You've seen it before!) Vince Camuto Shoes: Vans. HAPPY MONDAY, FRIENDS! Today started off cloudy, and my weather app predicted highs in the 50s. I brought out my oversized blazer to keep me warm, but the day turned out to be sunny and even hit 70 degrees! (Unpredictable Chicago weather for ya!) Needless to say, with my layering, I was prepared. A bright peach lipstick made brought my outfit from monotone to springy, and my shoes reminded me of being in Italy with my best friend, years ago (which is when I bought them!) The sunnies completed the outfit for a fresh, classy and practical look to start off my week! (photo cred to my dad, who looked at me nervously when I told him about my fashion blog...)
Blazer: Levi Strauss Jeans: Citizen of Humanity "Rockets" (my fave jeans EVER!) Top: Anthropologie (I think...the tag came off!) Shoes: Clocharme (Handmade Italian shoes from Florence) Sunnies: Ray-Bans, polarized. Lipstick: Laura Mercier, "Strawberry Sorbet" It's no secret that spring weather in Chicago can be confusing. One day it will be 70 degrees and sunny, and the next day it will be 45 and rainy. (It snowed at the beginning of April this year. Yes, snow.) This weather shift can even take place in the span of 24 hours! Unfortunately, this can make getting dressed each morning frustratingly difficult. Here are a few tips I've learned from my 22 years in the Chicago area about how to get through these unpredictable spring months. (I could write a whole book on this topic, but here are 3 of my favorite tips to get you started) 1. Layers, layers, layers. I can't stress this enough. Layers are your best friend. During the spring months, a short sleeved shirt or tank top under a light sweater or jacket will not only keep you stylish, but allow you flexibility if the weather unexpectedly changes halfway through the day (which, it has been known to do). If you're like me, when March/April rolls around, I'm tired of thick sweaters and boring denim. I'm ready to bring out my summer dresses and forget the rest. Don't be discouraged by the bad weather. You can wear your favorite sundress, even during the spring months, if you layer it!. Pair it with tights and your favorite booties, and throw a cute cardigan over it. Springy and practical at the same time! 2. Stick to a mix-and-match color palate. This might not be advice for everyone, but for me I've found that I gravitate towards neutral colors and stay away from bright colors and patterns. (Basically I wear a lot of black, grey, white, maroon, denim and olive green) I've found that this makes my transition from winter to spring in Chicago particularly easy, because everything matches! It makes layering super easy, and you minimize that awkward in-between stage where your spring clothes are too light and bright for the weather and your winter clothes are too dark and heavy. (This goes well with my layering comment above - the mix-and-match color palate not only comes in handy between seasons, but it makes your wardrobe instantly more versatile, if suddenly you can wear almost everything almost all year 'round!) 3. Don't be afraid to accessorize! Worried that the solid, neutral color palate might be too boring for spring? Never fear! Here is where accessories become your best friend. If you feel like you need a pop of color to make those dreary spring days more bearable, try painting your nails a bold color (mine are neon orange right now) or adding a colorful scarf or bold lipstick to your outfit. This post turned out to be overwhelmingly about dresses. I promise I wear pants too! ;) I will write about pants next-time. I guess dresses are just on my mind right now! Do you have any helpful tips for unpredictable spring weather? I would love to hear them in the comments. (Here's to a floral scarf to instantly "spring-ify" an outfit! Also, note the layers...the dress is sleeveless)
